Land Rover SUV: Compact Convertible Confirmed

Scene: On dark, London streets, a Land Rover is secretly transported to its testing site. Camouflaged, this prototype of the new Range Rover Evoque Convertible will be put through its paces by engineers. Will the vehicle live up to expectations?

If you haven't seen the film, it's recommended viewing.

The Crossrail tunnels are an “in process” project. Their aim is to improve travel by adding 42 km (about 26 miles) of tunnels to underground London.

There have been some fascinating developments, including

·         some ancient skeletons.

·         a tunnel selfie competition to win a tour of the project site.

Land Rover decided Crossrail was a natural opportunity for rigorous testing of the Evoque's all-terrain ability. In the film, we see a nice variety of terrain conditions.

It is obvious that Land Rover's Range Rover Evoque Convertible, the first car to be driven in these tunnels, has no problem coping with whatever is waiting, unseen, after the next curve. Top-down, the Evoque rumbles (over debris), sails (through water), and glides (over walls) to arrive safely at the end of the test course.

Land Rover says that the Range Rover Evoque Convertible is on-track for 2016.

Many drivers are already familiar with the 5-door Evoque Coupe in its Pure, Pure Plus, and Pure Premium models. In fact, MotorTrend magazine reports that more than 12 ½ thousand models were sold last year in the U.S. alone.

At the recent Geneva auto show, Land Rover announced that an updated version of this model would be available for 2016. Sales are scheduled to begin October 2015.

The most significant change is the engine. Europe will get either a 148 hp or 178 hp diesel power system. Land Rover's plans for the US market are unknown at the moment.

Other image-refreshing changes include resdesigned, full LED adaptive headlights; several innovative grill and wheel designs; larger air inlets; updated seats and door casings; and more choices of upholstery colors and materials.
